Academic Professional Development: Your Feedback & Next Steps

Thank you to all our teachers who took the time to complete the survey following our recent Academic Professional Development (PD) session on formative assessment. Your feedback is valuable in helping us make our professional learning opportunities more practical, collaborative, and relevant to your classroom needs. We received 42 responses across our academic departments, reflecting a wide range of perspectives and professional learning needs. It was encouraging to see that 66.7% of respondents had already implemented one or more of the formative assessment strategies discussed, while a further 23.8% planned to use them soon. This demonstrates a positive commitment to translating professional learning into classroom practice.

What did you tell us?  Academic PD Survey Highlights

Your responses highlighted three key priorities for future Academic PD:

  • Practical strategies and examples: You would like to see successful practices from colleagues, examine examples of student work, and explore strategies that can be applied directly in your classrooms.

  • More time for collaboration: You asked for dedicated time to discuss ideas within departments, plan together, and develop formative assessment approaches suited to your subjects and students.

  • Training that meets your needs: You highlighted the importance of subject-specific strategies, differentiation, digital assessment tools, and the effective use of AI to support planning and assessment without adding to teachers’ workload.

We also recognise that teachers have different levels of experience and expertise. While some colleagues would benefit from exploring foundational strategies, others are ready to deepen their practice, investigate new approaches, and share their expertise with colleagues.

What happens next?

Your feedback will directly inform our next Academic PD session on Thursday, 12 November 2026. The session will build on the priorities you have identified, with a focus on:

  • Sharing practical strategies and examples of effective classroom practice.

  • Providing opportunities for hands-on activities and collaborative departmental planning.

  • Exploring formative assessment approaches that are relevant to different subjects and year groups.

  • Making time for professional dialogue, sharing expertise, and developing ideas that can be implemented in the classroom.

We aim to ensure that Academic PD is not simply an opportunity to learn about new approaches, but a chance to explore, practise, collaborate, and leave with practical ideas that make a difference to student learning.

Thank you once again for your honesty, engagement, and willingness to contribute. Your feedback helps shape our professional learning journey at EMS Doha. We are committed to listening to your needs and ensuring that our future sessions provide meaningful opportunities for professional growth and improved teaching and learning.

Year 12-5 watching the BecomingX video

Year 12-3 students participated in an Empowered Lesson activity on “The Power of Positivity.” The activity encouraged students to develop a positive mindset, spread kindness, and understand how positive thoughts and actions can inspire themselves and others.

Farewell to Ms Nidhi

Wednesday is Ms Nidhi’s last day at EMS, and we thank her for everything she has contributed to our school. Ms Nidhi will soon relocate to the USA with her family, following her husband’s transfer for his banking responsibilities.

During her time at EMS, Ms Nidhi has been a valued member of the Science Department and a dedicated, caring teacher. Her professionalism, passion for teaching and commitment to her students have made a meaningful difference. She has also been a supportive colleague and a positive presence across the wider school community.

Ms Nidhi, thank you for your hard work and dedication. You will be greatly missed by students and colleagues alike. We wish you and your family every happiness and success as you begin this exciting new chapter in the USA.

Arabic Department

The Arabic Department will conduct the MoEHE Arabic and Islamic Studies Examinations for students in Years 7–9 from 18th to 20th October 2026. All examinations will take place in the school Gym.

To ensure the smooth running of the examinations, teachers of the affected lessons are kindly requested to accompany their students to the Gym to take attendance and invigilate. Ensure that students bring their bags.  Teachers scheduled for Periods 3, 5, and 7 are expected to come to the Gym during their lessons to invigilate.

Non-Muslim students and students studying French will be accommodated in a separate room at the back of the Gym under teacher supervision.

We apologise for any disruption to regular lessons and sincerely appreciate all staff's cooperation and support in ensuring a well-organised examination process.
